Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai EMIG

Mt Sinai's EMIG is currently organizing an EM resident-taught "Intro to EM" course to introduce students to the field and Emergency Medicine clinical reasoning. We also facilitate shadowing opportunities at Mt Sinai's Emergency Department, skills workshops on suturing, phlebotomy, and EKG interpretation, and panels of PDs and post-match panels of graduating MS4s. In the past, we've also hosted AAEM/RSA's Northeast EM Symposium featuring Dr. Leana Wen and a panel of NYC EM program directors!

Albany Medical College EMIG

Albany Medical College’s Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG) is an active, student-led club that strives to support and foster student interest in the field of Emergency Medicine (EM). We coordinate hands-on learning opportunities, such as simulation scenarios and workshops, as well as opportunities to shadow EM providers. Prior to COVID-19, shadowing shifts in trauma, adult, and pediatric EM were available monthly for sign up.

We have recently organized several events, including ‘How to Run a Code/Trauma’ sessions at our simulation center and several Q&As with both Emergency Medicine faculty and residents. To continue to foster collaboration between students and residents, an EM Resident-Student Mentorship Program was founded earlier this year. This program pairs a medical student with one of Albany Medical Center’s EM residents, providing an opportunity for students to ask questions about a future career in the field and receive guidance while navigating the residency application process.

Currently, we are working to schedule a Q&A panel about fellowship opportunities in EM, as well as ultrasound simulation sessions. We look forward to coordinating more exciting events for students!

University of Rochester EMIG

The University of Rochester Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG) is a medical student led group dedicated to the early exploration of emergency medicine. Our EMIG organizes monthly events including: ED faculty networking, hands-on clinical skill labs, EM case series discussions, and various lunch talks on social issues relevant to emergency medicine. We coordinate the medical student ED volunteer program (EMPEX), allowing medical students to gain the experience of performing procedures (IVs, phlebotomy, EKGs, suturing) and familiarizing them with the ED. We also organize the Annual Upstate NY Regional EMIG Symposium.
